A Story of a Musician

The Musician's Path

A Story of a Musician

In the 1970s, a musician from another Soviet republic was invited to join the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra with the promise of being given an apartment. Upon his arrival, however, it turned out the apartment wasn’t ready, and that was just the beginning of his troubles.

Eduard Ter Ghazaryan created a series of caricatures that captured the unfortunate events that followed. The musician was repeatedly denied accommodation, thrown out of temporary shelters, and met with indifference or rejection wherever he went. His situation kept getting worse until, in a final twist of irony, just as he was forced to leave for good, the official apartment order finally came through — but it was too late.
